COMFORT FOOD AND VINYL COLLIDE AT TERRITORY BBQ AND RECORDS
My friend Ilka clued me in on this great new record store (record stores are still around, right!?) AND there's BBQ. Ridiculous.
Here's the press release:
Come visit: Territory, 534 Hoover Street, Los Angeles, CA 90004
In a metropolis where finding good food and music is not just a priority
but a way of life, new Los Angeles restaurant Territory BBQ And Records,
opening next month, is nothing short of a dream come true. Part authentic
southern food joint, part specialty vinyl retail store, Territory, owned
and operated by former Tee Pee Records executive Tony Presedo and former
Bad Wizard frontman Curtis Brown, is sure to quickly become one of the
cityıs premiere hotspots for foodies and music lovers alike.
Brown previously found success with Endless Summer Tacos, a Williamsburg
taco truck he opened with Just Farr A Laugh comedian Jeff Jensen. Today,
the truck continues to bring the flavor of downtown LA straight to the
heart of Brooklyn, an idea the entrepreneur chanced upon while recording an
album on the west coast with his former band: ³I was staying at the Hotel
Roosevelt, and ate at a truck a block away. Immediately, I wondered why
they didnıt have one in Williamsburg.²
Last year, Brown was struck by a similar inspiration, during a visit to his
parentsı home in North Carolina last Thanksgiving - ³I realized there was
nobody in Los Angeles doing the kind of barbecue you can find down south,
and we had to fix that.² His friend and former label boss Presedo was
looking to open a record store, so Brown simply proposed they combine the
two, and Territory was born.
The restaurant boasts, as Brown explains, ³the best barbecue recipes from
all parts of the country weıve got dishes from North Carolina, Memphis,
Kansas City, and Texas, all under one roof,² with a menu that includes
Carolina-style pulled pork sandwiches served on Wonder Bread, Memphis-style
sliced brisket, Texan ribs, fried chicken, fried catfish, homemade pies
made from seasonal fruit, special casseroles, and incredible sides such as
candied yams, macaroni and cheese, collard greens and freshly-made
biscuits. The record store features a similarly diverse selection of rare
and collectible vinyl, spanning selections of psych, garage and deep funk.
³Obviously, not everyone that comes to eat is going to buy a record. But
hopefully, everyone that buys a record will come to eat,² says Brown.
Although Los Angeles has seen many hip record stores and countless
distinctive restaurants, Territory BBQ and Recordıs opening will be the
first time Angelenos can find both under one roof. With its soft opening
May 14, Brown and Presedo will be satisfying this cityıs insatiable
appetite for great food and great music in one convenient location.
Territory is located at 534 Hoover Street, Los Angeles, CA 90004
